Signs Your BFT Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing

• The gate leaf sags toward the free end. This is the classic hinge problem. The barrel wears or the pin bends, the leaf drops, and the latch no longer lines up with the receiver. You might find yourself lifting the gate by hand to get it to catch.
• You hear a grinding or scraping noise mid-travel. A roller wheel that has lost its bearing will drag instead of spin. The gate still moves, but the motor is working harder every cycle, and that leads to premature operator failure.
• The gate jerks or hangs briefly at the same spot. A flat-spotted roller will make the gate pulse as it passes over that spot. You’ll feel it through the leaf even if you can’t see it from the driveway.
• The post side of the hinge shows rust staining or metal dust. Rust staining at the hinge barrel means water has gotten in and the grease is long gone. A fine dark dust under the roller means the bearing race is eating itself.
